Do You Love Jesus More Than Your Sin?
A Call to True Surrender
Opening Scripture: Romans 6:12-14
"Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace."
The same hands that formed the heavens, the same hands that shaped mankind from the dust, were pierced for our transgressions. The One who spoke the universe into existence willingly endured the suffering of the cross—His flesh shredded, His blood poured out—all for our redemption.
Yet many of us live as though this sacrifice is just another story, something we remember for an hour on Sunday but ignore the rest of the week. We hold onto our sin like a prized possession while giving God the leftovers of our time and devotion.
So I ask you: Do you love Jesus more than your sin?
1. Have You Forgotten What He Did for You?
Jesus didn’t just die for your sins—He died because of them. He took on the punishment that was meant for us. Yet some of us have grown numb to the cross. We sing about it, we wear it as jewelry, but do we truly live in response to it?
Have you neglected your prayer life? Have you ignored His Word? Has your heart drifted back into darkness while your lips still claim His name?
A Bible that is falling apart is usually owned by a man who is not. The question is, how does your Bible look?
2. Why Are You Holding Onto Your Darkness?
Romans 6:12 warns us: “Do not let sin reign in your mortal body.” That means sin only has the power you allow it to have. Too many Christians live in chains that have already been broken. You’ve been set free by the blood of Jesus, yet you still walk like a prisoner.
Why? Because deep down, some of us still love our sin. We justify it. We excuse it. We hide it. But Jesus didn’t go to the cross so you could stay the same—He died so you could be transformed.
You cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). You cannot cling to the cross with one hand and to sin with the other. It’s time to choose.
3. What Are You Willing to Give?
Jesus didn’t give part of Himself for you—He gave everything. His flesh was torn. His blood was spilled. He was mocked, beaten, and abandoned—all to redeem you.
Yet many are willing to live for their flesh six days a week and only give Jesus an hour on Sunday morning. We make time for what we love. We sacrifice for what we value. We pursue what we desire.
So what does your life say about what you love most?
We Must Come to Surrender
Romans 6:13 commands us: “Offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life.”
Today, I challenge you to do just that. If you have allowed sin to creep back into your life, if your love for Christ has grown cold, if your time with God has become an afterthought—it’s time to come back.
Jesus didn’t suffer so you could stay in sin. He died so you could be free.
So I ask again: Do you love Jesus more than your sin?
It’s time to stop living halfway. It’s time to surrender completely. It’s time to return to the cross.
Altar Call:
If you need to lay down your sin today, if you need to rededicate your life, if you need to let go of the darkness you’ve been holding onto—come forward and surrender it to Jesus.
Choose today whom you will serve (Joshua 24:15).
